Arsenal suffer double injury blow

Arsene Wenger, the Arsenal manager, has suffered a double injury setback with the news that both William Gallas and Robin van Persie have been injured while away on international duty.

Gallas, the Arsenal captain, has been forced to pull out of the France squad for the World Cup qualifying match against Romania after suffering a torn thigh muscle in a training.

Van Persie, who has been ruled out for Holland’s qualifying match against Iceland, has picked up a hamstring problem. He has stayed with the Holland squad and will be reassessed for Wednesday's trip to Norway.

Wenger will hope both players are fit for Arsenal's home game with Everton on October 18, after the club failed to win either of their past two Premier League matches.
