THE PRIZES

One winner, as decided by our expert team of judges, will have their illustration featured on the cover of the centenary edition of The Wind in The Willows, to be published by Vintage Classics in November 2008. The winner will also receive 40 Random House children's books of his or her choice - from a list including brilliant authors such as Jacqueline Wilson, Philip Pullman, Roald Dahl and Terry Pratchett.

Three runners-up will each receive 20 Random House children's books of his or her choice.

Shirley Hughes: illustrator and author whose books include the Alfie series and Dogger

Sharron Morgan: Books design editor, The Times

Stephen Parker: creative director, Random House

HOW TO ENTER

Entrants must create an original illustration inspired by The Wind in the Willows for use on the Vintage Classics edition of the book. The competition is open to residents of the UK or the Republic of Ireland who are aged 7 to 12 on July 25, 2008. Entries can be in black and white or colour and must be submitted on no larger than A4-sized sheet. Entries must not include any text (even the title or the author). Each entry must include a sheet of A4 paper with the entrant's name, date of birth, address, telephone number, and the name and signature of a parent or guardian (this confirms agreement to the terms and conditions and consent to the entrant's participation in the competition). Only one entry per person, and one illustration per entry is allowed. Entries must be sent by post only, to The Wind in the Willows Competition, 2nd Floor, Random House, 20 Vauxhall Bridge Rd, London SW1V 2SA. Entries must be received by July 25, 2008. Winners will be notified by October 10 and announced in The Times
on November 1.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Each entrant confirms that their entry will not infringe any law or regulation or third party right, including but not limited to the law of copyright or trade marks. Entrants will own and retain any copyright in their entries. Entrants accept that the promoter and The Times reserves the right to adapt entries, including the winning and runners-up entries.

The winning entrant and runners-up agree to grant on a worldwide, royalty free perpetual basis to The Times and the promoter any necessary and relevant permissions relating to the publication of their entry in any media by the promoter and/or The Times. The winning entrant and runners-up agree to the use by the promoter and The Times of his/her name and photograph in relation to publicity material.

Personal data will be retained and used by the promoter only for the purposes of this competition and will be deleted thereafter. Personal data will not be passed on to any third party. The promoter of this competition is Vintage Classics, an imprint of Thhe Random House Group Limited.
